ランカジ寺院について
「ランカジ」は日本初のスリランカ寺院です.
It was founded in 1989 in Sawara City, Chiba Prefecture,
with Reverend Panagara Upatissa in charge.
It is
also the base of activities of the Mahabodhi Society in
Japan, and it also provides diplomatic assistance on a
national level together with the Sri Lankan Embassy,
and at the same time serves as a spiritual home for
Sri Lankans living in Japan who are far from their
homeland. It also plays a role in communication in
Japan.
His activities in Japan began in 1986 when
he came to Japan with the Buddha’s ashes and began
practicing Hinayana Buddhism while living in a rented
house in Tokyo.
The group moved its base to its
current location in Sawara City, Chiba Prefecture, and
its main activities include not only missionary work,
but also visiting temples and organizations across the
country to teach correct Buddhism through
sermons.
Another activity is the transmission of
culture to children, mainly through early childhood
education.

How the World Knows Ven. Banagala Upatissa Nayaka Thero?
Venerable Banagala Nayaka Thero holds the position of Chief Sanghanayaka of Japan, president of Mahabodhi Society of Sri Lanka, founder chairman of Yoshida Foundation and counsellor at the Pali and Buddhist University of Sri Lanka.
Banagala Thero is a disciple of Ven. Hadigalle Pannatissa Mahanayaka Thero who was the Chief Sanghanayaka for India. His Ordination was held on 19 October 1967 and his higher ordination was on 5th July 1970 at Kotte Sri Kalyani Samagree Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha, in Sri Lanka.
His primary education was at the Mahabodhi Inter College, Sarnath, India and he completed higher secondary education at the Government High School at Sanchi. He obtained his Bachelor of Arts at the SSL Jain Degree College, Vidisha, and earned his Master of Arts at University of Bhopal, India. He obtained a Diploma in Japanese Language at Nihongo Gakko School Shibuya, Tokyo, and later pursued child education at Lumbini Kindergarten, Shibamata, Tokyo.
Being the ambassador of peace and harmony, he had regular interaction with world leaders, priests, scholars, religious gurus and philanthropists.
